Jean Feier is The Ghanaian Artist you Need to Know Now
Jean Feier (pronounced fire) likens her sound to the sea when asked to put it into words. “I say my sound is like the ocean because I go through periods where it’s calm and soothing, and other times it’s wild.” If you’ve had the pleasure of hearing any of her stuff, you will know that this is a pretty fitting description.
The Ghanaian artist explains that her diverse sound is an accurate representation of her music taste and influences, which spans across many genres. However, she is quick to highlight that although her art takes on many forms, the message is clear: “My soundscape is diverse, but at its core, it aims to convey a common message: an exploration of self, and diving into the alternative”.
Music runs deep for Jean, noting that she’s been developing her skills in songwriting from as young as 9 years old. She explains that pursuing a career in music was “a natural aspiration” for her. Born in Germany, she slowly made her way around the globe, from London to Europe and back to spend a significant amount of time in South Africa.
On her decision to move to Ghana, she outlines the importance of reconnecting with her heritage in order to get the best out of her art “I moved back to Accra to get in touch with where I come from. Being here allows me to create from a place of cohesion, [and that’s] very important to me,”. She says she’s dedicating this downtime to new music, some of which you can stream below.
