Producer Spotlight: Mr Kamera


Known, respected, and admired by musical giants across the African continent and world, Mr Kamera has successfully established himself as one of the most versatile producers in the global music industry. Born Tatenda Terence Kamera in Zimbabwe and now based in South Africa, Mr Kamera has taken his passion for music to great lengths; now standing as an award-winning composer, producer and writer.

Mr Kamera’s musical journey begun at an early age; having written and recorded his first full studio album at the age of 13 and making beats at 15, Kamera was launched into a passionate and successful relationship with music production. Taking inspiration from Pharell Williams, Timbaland and Dr Dre, Mr Kamera developed his production skills and experience to award him the oppurtunities working with African and diaspora-based giants such as Davido, Sauti Sol, Patoranking, Tiwa Savage, Popcaan and countless more.

Although creating a household name for himself in the production world, Mr Kamera’s passion in making music didn’t stop there. The production giant soon developed a thirst and interest in film scoring, and after thorough research and self-training, Kamera was able to demonstrate and exhibit his exceptional prowess in musical storytelling. Using various elements of production, written and practical musical skills, Mr Kamera has been able to subtly yet effectively capture and translate visual emotions into musical ones. This talent has, to date, landed the diverse producer various and reputable scoring credits ranging from local South African broadcasting channels such as SABC, to Netflix feature films and popular series Blood and Water, even to animated feature films and Documentary work from BRICS as well as popular clothing brand Daily Paper.

Both a pioneer and pusher of African sounds, Mr Kamera is motivated to continue his efforts in projecting and “fuse[ing] the sounds of Africa and creating a bridge that anyone can easily relate to”. It is this talented and inspiring producer’s vision to get people everywhere and anywhere to “embrace the Spirit and Sound of Africa”; a vision he is surely and evidently bringing to life.
